News…

Television

  • City TV came out to our office to do a news story on us. It aired Wednesday May 20, 2009.

Radio

  • We wanted to let you know that Basically Babies was featured in a story on CBC Radio's Edmonton AM program.  Their reporter Andrea Huncar was very impressed and hopes that her story really captures the spirit of our work the the less-fortunate families in our community.  Listen to the interview here.
  • Shine FM also did 2 half hour segments on the work of Basically Babies in the last week of May 2009.

Print

  • Marta Gold once again wrote about us in the Life Section in the May 9th edition of the Edmonton Journal.  She is helping us to promote our first-ever community drive for donations of snowsuits - the Basically Babies Snowsuit Stack-up.  Take a look on-line at Bundle Up Some Babies.
  • We made the front page of the Edmonton Journal!  In December of 2007, Basically Babies was featured on the FRONT COVER of the Edmonton Journal! You can read the article here: Local charity showers help on new moms...
  •
  • Passport Magazine - Recently, the President of Basically Babies Shannon Stewart, was featured in Passport Magazine for the work she is doing with Basically Babies. You can read the article on pages 8 - 9 of Spring 2008 Passport Magazine.
Passport Magazine - Spring 2008 (pdf).
  • In May of 2008, we had the opportunity to meet with Alberta Health Minister Dave Hancock to introduce him to the work of Basically Babies. He was so impressed by our program that he featured our organization in his Spring Constituency Newsletter.  In his letter he says:
“I am proud of the work Basically Babies contributes to our city. They are the only organization in Edmonton whose sole purpose is to provide for the basic outfitting needs of infants in this way. As more young and impoverished families migrate to our area, seeking a better life, the outstanding volunteers at Basically Babies give these families a practical gift as well as a sense of the hope and promise that our community has to offer.”

Upcoming Events…

MAMMOTH Basically Babies Garage Sale 2009

We thought that a little update was in order along with a “MAMMOTH” thank-you.  As all of you are likely aware, the “Mammoth Basically Babies Garage Sale” held on Saturday May 30th  was a huge success.  We want to say a huge thanks to the Knotts (Greg, Colin and families) of Tailor Made Insurance for allowing us to “take over” the building parking lot for the day.  The location was excellent and perfect for the sale.  A special thank-you goes to Cari Knott and Shannon Walters for organizing the event - this was a mammoth task on its own!.

Together we raised over $10,500 for the Basically Babies Layette Program.  Perhaps equally or even more important was the fact that we were able to talk about Basically Babies to many, many people and provide information about our organization and our objectives and we expect many good things to come of this in the future.

Many of you played a significant role in the success of this event and we are so grateful for your help.  We had excellent comments about our volunteers all day long and afterwards too.  Many comments were made about how hard everyone worked and how well everyone worked together, jumping in where needed and getting the job done – great job, volunteers!  We recognize that each of you could have been spending a beautiful spring day on other activities, but chose to spend some time working together to raise funds to meet the basic outfitting needs of needy infants born into our community.  For this we are very grateful.  This was the biggest volunteer requirement that we have ever had in Basically Babies and you totally made it happen in a big way!  Thank-you!
